About Del Mar Hills

Del Mar Hills is a popular community in Del Mar, California that considered to be more affordable than other areas in the city. Residents are close to beaches, stores, restaurants, services, and recreation.

Del Mar Hills is comprised of smaller homes and does not have any Mello Roos taxes or Home Owners Association dues. This neighborhood is located south of Del Mar Heights Road and on the ocean side of the 5 Freeway. Residents enjoy spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and mountains.

This community is served by the Del Mar Union School District and the San Dieguito Union High School District. Students may attend highly ranked Del Mar Hills Elementary, Earl Warren Middle School, and Torrey Pines High School. Some families choose private schooling from facilities such as the Winston School of San Diego, St. James Academy, and Del Mar Montessori. There are several colleges within minutes such as MiraCosta College.

There are many hiking trails and parks in this region. Torrey Pines State Preserve is said to be one of Southern California’s wildest stretches of land on the coast. Visitors enjoy hiking and exploring as well as imagining the state as it was before settlers. There are several golfing venues in this region like the Grand Golf Club and Palacio del Mar Golf Course. This city is also famous for the Del Mar Racetrack and Fairgrounds.

It’s only a ten minute drive to the beach and traveling is convenient. On both sides of the freeway you’ll find many stores and restaurants. There are a variety of merchants at Beachside Del Mar, and the Del Mar Highlands Town Center.

Del Mar means “by the sea” or “of the sea” in Spanish. In 1885 Colonel Jacob Taylor bought 338 acres to build a resort for rich and famous residents. City attractions include the Del Mar Antique Show and the Torrey Pines State Beach.
